Do I need one for every plant?
No, one sensor can look after multiple plants.
Most people start with their trickiest plants, and rotate them as needed.
If you want continuous monitoring on your most treasured plants, bundles let you cover more at once. But you'll never need one per plant if you don't want to.
Is the monitor intrusive?
SmartyPlants is made to support your plants discreetly - it's smaller than a credit card.
Its slim, organic form sits naturally in the pot, so your plants remain the focus.
Does it work with every plant and home?
Yes - it works with every type of plant and we have 10,000's already on our app.
Homes aren't built for plants, and the same plant might have different needs in different spots of your home.

Is it waterproof?
Yes, definitely. SmartyPlants is the only plant monitor with IP65 waterproofing, so you don't need to remove the sensor when watering your plants!

How long is the battery life?
The battery lasts 4+ months between charges.
It's fully rechargeable via USB-C - no fiddly battery swaps or hunting for odd-sized battery cells.
How does SmartyPlants measure light differently?
Other sensors only measure light intensity (how bright a room feels). But brightness alone doesn't tell you how much light your plant can actually use.
SmartyPlants measures light quality as well as intensity, accounting for the spectrum of light reaching your plant's leaves.
In practice, this means advice that's calibrated to real homes, not tropical growing conditions.
How does SmartyPlants compare to other plant monitors?
There are broadly three types of plant sensor:
Basic moisture meters (£10–£30) measure one or two things. Useful for a single check, but won't tell you why your leaves are yellowing or growth has stalled.
Monitors with subscriptions measure more, but lock full data behind monthly fees and often need a separate hub. The total cost adds up.
